Project description

This blog has been created by the 2020 promotion of students of Engineering Physics at UPC, as an assignment for the subject PEF (Projectes d’Enginyeria Física).

In this work, we aim to analyze the impacts that our degree has on many different levels and from different points of view. Our ultimate goal is to make a quantitative and qualitative transversal assessment about the impacts that we have on the environment and on society.

In particular, we deal with the environmental pollution associated to student mobility, the use of laboratories, the time and material devoted to study, and try to asses the impact of the student’s food habits. We also explore the potential positive and negative impacts that we have as engineering physicists, and look into the SDG (sustainable development goals) linked to our degree and UPC. On the other hand, we evaluate the social impact of our degree, and in particular the gender inequalities that may be present in the context of our setting, and in science in general. We also investigate our economic impact, and health impact. Finally, we dive into deontology and the ethical issues present at the engineering physics degree.

Each entry has been written by groups of 3 students, and a poll has been devised to gather relevant information from all students of the program.
